How Spark Ads Reduced CPI by 57% and CPP by 76% in a Major GCC Beauty Promotion

  • 57%lower CPI
  • 76%lower cost per purchase
  • 47%lower cost-to-revenue ratio

Company and Market Context

The beauty retail market in the GCC, is highly competitive and structurally concentrated. Premium cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance sales are largely dominated by a small group of specialized retailers such as Sephora and Faces, alongside strong omnichannel players and marketplace platforms. At the same time, the market continues to attract new entrants: international brands and retail chains are increasingly expanding into the Gulf.

Letoile began expanding into the GCC region in 2024 launching regional websites and opening stores in UAE and Qatar. Today, Letoile combines offline retail, website, and mobile app channels to compete in the highly saturated GCC beauty market, offering a portfolio of more than 500 international beauty brands and thousands of fragrance products across its stores and digital platforms.

Problem

Letoile faced a challenging task: in highly competitive markets like the UAE and Qatar, with almost no brand awareness among the target audience, the goal was to attract beauty product buyers and drive them to make purchases on Letoile, while staying within strict KPIs for ROAS and a limited promotion budget.

Strategic Hypothesis

In beauty, purchase intent is typically driven by product immersion. In contrast to traditional ads, where creatives are focused just on offer mechanics, product-driven content is focused on experience, texture, packaging, and anticipation.

The hypothesis was that leading with unboxing content — delivered through localized creator posts — would build product desire before presenting the app as a purchase channel. If successful, this sequence would lower acquisition friction and improve post-install conversion quality.

Spark Ads were selected because they preserve organic post identity, social proof, and creator credibility. This structural difference changes how the message is perceived: not as an app download request, but as a product experience.

It was decided to test this hypothesis while promoting the Secret Box campaign.

Promotional Context: Secret Box Campaign

Secret Box was a high-impact promotional mechanic: customers who spent above a certain amount within 1 order received a «mystery» beauty box containing random full-size beauty products.

This mechanic triggered strong emotional engagement and urgency. The campaign ran across multiple paid platforms, with Spark Ads and standard In-Feed iOS campaigns operating concurrently on TikTok during the same promotional period June 10 — July 8, 2025.

Performance Results: Secret Box Campaign

Spark Ads and standard In-Feed iOS campaigns ran in parallel throughout the promotional period. While this was not a strict A/B experiment, campaigns operated under comparable conditions and budgets, allowing for performance comparison within the same market dynamics.

The results were materially different. Here’s the percentage difference between Spark Ad and In-feed Ads.

While traffic efficiency improved substantially, the more strategic outcome was purchase economics. Cost per purchase during the promotion dropped significantly under Spark Ads. Revenue efficiency improved accordingly.

The key distinction was not simply cheaper installs. Spark campaigns generated users who were already emotionally aligned with the product category before installation.

A similar approach was used again to validate the concept during the promotion of another campaign, Diamond Box, which took place in the winter period.

Creative Lifecycle Analysis: Diamond Box

A separate promotional mechanic, Diamond Box, ran in December with a similar purchase-threshold mystery box structure. Although a different campaign, we could look at a valuable insight into creative lifecycle behavior under Spark Ads.

Daily data analysis revealed a predictable pattern.

The first 7 days showed peak efficiency. After that point, performance declined gradually. Purchases began to decrease before installs did, suggesting that emotional novelty wore off sooner at the purchase level.

The practical implication is that Spark creatives in beauty have an effective lifecycle of approximately 7−10 days. Beyond that window, even stable spend levels do not prevent gradual efficiency degradation.

This does not indicate format weakness. It highlights the need for disciplined creative rotation and proper management of influencer integrations rather than reliance on the same posts for a long period of time.

Strategic Implications

Spark Ads proved particularly effective in this environment because they aligned with how purchase intent forms in beauty. The promotional mechanic amplified anticipation and emotional engagement. The creative format preserved authenticity and social proof. Together, these elements shifted the funnel dynamic.

Rather than pushing the application aggressively, the strategy positioned the app as the logical next step after product desire was established.

This approach appears especially relevant in markets where the brand is still strengthening regional trust and recognition. When brand equity is developing, creator-driven product immersion can accelerate performance outcomes without inflating acquisition cost.

However, Spark Ads are not universally optimal. Categories lacking emotional product depth may not experience the same structural advantage. Additionally, operational rigor is required — particularly in creative refresh cycles.

Conclusion

Spark Ads outperformed not because of technical campaign optimization, but because the strategy itself changed. The campaign shifted toward a product-driven narrative, rethought the role of content during the promotion, and positioned the format more effectively within the conversion funnel.

During Secret Box, this translated into a 57% reduction in acquisition cost and a 76% reduction in cost per purchase compared to parallel standard campaigns. Long-term data confirms that the structural efficiency advantage persists when creative rotation is managed proactively.

For brands operating in emotionally driven verticals such as beauty, Spark Ads may represent not simply a format alternative, but a performance architecture built around purchase intent rather than app mechanics.

Testimonial from Letoile

«We integrated Spark Ads into our influencer marketing strategy and were thrilled with the results. The E-Promo team did a great job setting up the campaigns, helping us maximize our reach and hit our targets effectively.

When choosing creators for our beauty ECOM potential customers, we prioritize relevance over pure follower count — selecting influencers whose content, audience and niche genuinely align with the products and campaign at hand, then briefing them closely so the content stays true to both their voice and our brand."
